A spatial identity system for SANAA — translating architectural philosophy into brand language across print, digital, and environmental touchpoints.
SANAA is one of the most influential architecture studios in the world. Known for lightness, transparency, and structural minimalism.
I developed a spatial brand identity that translates their architectural philosophy into a cohesive visual language — spanning print collateral, digital presence, and environmental signage.
The existing identity didn't reflect the studio's architectural principles.
Print materials felt generic.
Digital presence lacked spatial awareness.
The challenge: create a brand system as restrained and intentional as their buildings.
The identity system draws directly from SANAA's architecture:
• Transparency as a design principle — layered elements, reduced opacity
• Structural grids derived from building plans
• Material palette inspired by glass, steel, and concrete
Every touchpoint reflects spatial thinking — not decoration.
Typography: Swiss precision, open tracking, extreme weight contrast.
Color: Monochrome foundation with material-derived accents.
Grid: Modular system based on architectural proportions.
The system is quiet. Every element earns its space.
The identity extends across:
Print — monograph layouts, exhibition catalogues, business stationery
Digital — website redesign, project documentation system
Environmental — wayfinding, exhibition signage, building plaques
Each application follows the same spatial logic.
The identity now mirrors the architecture.
Materials feel considered, not produced.
Every touchpoint reinforces the studio's philosophy of lightness and precision.
